The second site acquired by Green’s was formerly the Lloyds Bank HQ in the city. The brief was to create a Champagne & Oyster bar in the Grade 2* Listed Banking Hall and a 130 seat fine dining restaurant on the mezzanine level. CDS-Wilman were tasked with ensuring that the design underlined the company ethos and the theme of ‘Britishness’. The aim was to combine traditional and modern features to attract a new and wider customer base. CDS were awarded the entire project – from design concept to completion on site.
The Banking Hall’s original features, including 10m high ceilings, marble walls and columns, bronze teller gates and imperial staircase, were listed and therefore lead the brief. The design and colour palette were heavily influenced by the listed floor which featured a bright shade of mustard. CDS developed a palette of golds, yellows, aubergines, greys and black which complemented the floor and sympathetic to the historic setting. The Mezzanine level also dictated a balance of interior finishes to maintain the traditional ’old school’ feel of the original restaurant and promote a contemporary look in an architecturally challenging setting. CDS developed the concept, a detailed drawing package, dealt with all COL planning, English Heritage and building control applications, and contracted the project on site.
